(CBS News) The Price Of Admission: The Battle Over Concert Tickets

https://youtu.be/1dRcD6DPhdE?si=8NchZouUPogLwh8B   This is a fantastic and in depth 24 minute episode. Usually anything having to do with ticketing I just say "WRONG, WRONG, WRONG" but this is pretty accurate. Interviewing a band showing the actual contract and knowing the band splits $10 on that $70 you spent 5 ways, well not really a surprise. That's kinda how running any business works. The margins are usually in the single digits. Except for the glory days of ticket resale, that is. The most interesting thing to me is to see what the actual brokers are doing because these are closely guarded secrets. I wish I was able to put a team together like that. Instead I had a loose partnership with one and sometimes 2 people as their day jobs allowed. Just commissions on handling their sales would have been an improvement on the McJob when it was steady. It was all me, all the time, 8-18 hour days 360 or so days a year for years straight, getting up at 6am even when I was goi...

Afro Bowie @ Teragram Ballroom 2025-03-31

This show was postponed from Jan 9. Some of the people on the original flyer didn't appear. Credits may not be comprehensive. I got a few tickets for $20 (with a much higher face) as the show was over $50 and nearly sold out so I thought I might sell and subsidize. And then I just didn't feel like going. So when I went in holding all tickets I was very salty. Moby, likely the only person onstage who actually met Bowie was trying to tell an actual honest to gawd story. Unfortunately indecipherable babbling from 20 feet away was feeding into my good ear and drowning him out which led to quite the outburst. When I boosted the levels on the first set I didn't touch that spot. For the 2nd set I moved closer and it might run a tad hot. But it was a great show much like the Wizdome in 2022. These people bought and play the actual albums and do the catalog justice. The first show was in a unique and visually impressive venue but the Teragram has some of the best soun...

Ratt @ Long Beach Arena 1984-04-04

LIMITED TIME / LAST TIME I do not have the Ozzy set for this night but I remembered seeing it on the first ever trade lists around 1988 that had not been updated since 1986. Probably a lot of stuff never seen since. Ratt was a last minute replacement for Slade, who performed it's last show, aside from a single song at a fan convention, at the Cow Palace a week prior.  As a courtesy to the original poster I included the entire want list but if you can help, search for GManOF on Guitars101 or DimeADozen. https://pixeldrain.com/u/KxAb2chX +++++++++++++++++ RATT 1984-04-04 Long Beach, Long Beach Arena, CA (AUD-FLAC) GManOF Memories Series No. 041 GManOF Memories Series No. 041 Artist: RATT Date: 04. Sun Ra1981-04-02 LA, CA [Transparency 0236]

Wake up and pull up Sun Ra, 44 years ago on this date in history. It takes a good 10 minutes to realize that's not some bizarre percussion instrument but honest to gawd CD skipping. Seriously, what the fucking fuck. Just one reason why I never post anything I have never personally listened to. Got so much useless garbage off Dime and even The Trader's Den where "quality is the standard." And no one ever says anything. Because no one ever actually listens to anything. I think I should just suck it up and see what mental health options I have with new health plan I still haven't even looked at. I'll tell you what the therapist says. Maybe it's time to open a support group for those of us who can successfully leave this world behind.

Joe Cocker

Currently listening to the most amazing extended reissue of Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs And Englishment which is basically several complete shows that comprised the original double album. Now I don't pay attention to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and it holds no validation over my musical tastes, I do not enter into the discussion at all except I am fond of saying we are about 20 years removed from the building getting paved over into a parking lot. Yet I was shocked to find out he is not in it. If I actually cared to take the time to vote (and I didn't) I probably would have chose him over Bad Company. Closely followed by John Belushi, who's iconic interpretation of Joe Cocker's Woodstock performance of With A Little Help From My Friends on Saturday Night Live I see as a respectful homage rather than a spoof. Highlights are Space Captain, Something and Superstar with lead vocals by Rita Coolidge.  And oh do I regret to not even remembering seeing a single show on the ca...

Adventures Selling Kid Rock Tickets

Image
From Kid Rock's sold out hometown show in Detroit opening a brand new arena. So even if he may have popularity and notoriety when you hear people say dismissively "No one is scalping Kid Rock tickets," they really mean no one who knows what they are doing is scalping Kid Rock tickets. I will admit I never knew what I was doing. If I did I would might some day be a billionaire too. And there were so many more to sell. Of course in the end there were 6 shows. Sometimes that's a problem and sometimes it isn't. Not long after I consoled myself for my serious miscalculations with this article and wondered if the author bought any of my tickets. "To understand Kid Rock’s politics, we attempted to go to all six of his shows at Little Caesars Arena " https://www.metrotimes.com/music/to-understand-kid-rocks-politics-we-attempted-to-go-to-all-six-of-his-shows-at-little-caesars-arena-5853633

(YT) Buckstock 99 - the best of Buckcherry at Woodstock '99

Last night my friend texted me from somewhere with the news "Guy From Buckcherry is here." I replied "Guy From Buckcherry should be the name on his driver's license." Weren't they being touted on many music boards as the future of rock? Is the future here yet? Which brings me to this gem, the best of Buckcherry at Woodstock '99 amounting to about 2:11 of the set. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/eV-1KyHTc70?si=0qWBbLERCGbJ4mMO

Coalition For Ticket Fairness Statement and commentary

Image
Of course the CTF and National Association Of Ticket Brokers is going to take a conciliatory approach. Of course they are against BOTS, which are ALREADY ILLEGAL (thanks Obama!) or anything that is also unfair to people with tickets to sell whether professionals or fans who made other plans in the intervening years between date of sale and showtime. I never used bots when I was doing serious volume and I felt they are unfair competition for me and my business. I also feel the same way about penny slicing auto-pricers and still bristle at the hefty extortion payment I paid to Broker Genius to protect my inventory. Thankfully the 2nd year of my contract ran thru most of 2020 (it was a percentage of sales). And any crackdowns on the secondary market will only further solidify LiveNation/Ticketmaster dominance. And course there will never be any industry transparency for primary ticketing. I was always reluctant to use the term monopoly as long as I could get the same tickets from a...

Danzig @ Phoenix, AZ 2025-03-30 (and commentary on the Forum show)

I just don't have anything anniversary wise or new transfers to offer today. If I have any new transfers they will be available Friday. I was hoping to have a different Danzig show available but it didn't quite work out that way. When I saw Danzig was playing the Forum of all places I knew there would be bargains galore. Talking about an obvious overbooking. But of course your typical experienced ticket broker would know better than to buy in on that mess so that means any discounts would only be available through official channels and in the lot.   As anticipated there were discounts. But it was mainly lowering the already exorbitant top price to something only slightly less ridiculous while keeping the bottom tier at $52.70. And then there was a quite tolerable single unit price of $29.50 but only as part of a 4 pack. I was not going to be responsible for moving the other 3. The promoter also possibly split the GA floor from the pit post-sale, then allowed paid upgrades inclu...

Ditching The Blog In Favor A Weekly Radio Program

.   .   .   .   .   April Fool's ... NOT It's been offered and it's being considered. Had no plans to say anything to anyone but figured today might be a good day to mention it. May not have time or feel it's appropriate to do both since the program will follow a similar theme. And what radio host would field calls like "can you play Stairway To Heaven and send me Led Zeppelin IV" Also in spite of messages to the contrary I feel it's not appropriate to monetize the blog and seek sponsorship, even "Buy Me A Coffee" and the one thing I would want you to if you offered me a drink at or before show is to buy me a coffee. But it is appropriate to monetize and seek sponsorship for a radio program. Which would go towards some of the same equipment dedicated to preserving history. Yeah, I know no one listens to the radio anymore. Which is fine with me because I don't like the way I sound.  We'll see.   (If you use the comments feature here to mak...
