Hi mate, can you give any hint about the origin of the recording? I listened to it and it is genuinely a not widely circulating live show/document of that era of perkins career.
ReplyDeleteFor specialised Rock n roll listeners and historians a great document for several reasons. First thanks a lot for sharing and secondly in case you have any informations about the origin of the recording I'd be glad to get them. Do you know the taper or on which site it surfaced online before you could get your hands on it?
It was recorded by my deceased friend. More info here https://ijwthstd.blogspot.com/2021/07/all-hail-mystery-drive.html
DeleteBingo.
DeleteThis is such a case, in which some music historian, specialised on RNR history was exactly searching for something like this to be taken into account during the process of researching a certain style of an instrumentalist (Carl Perkins guitar playing and it's development zhrough the years. core elements, phases and habits).
For most folks, this recording would be of no interest, but in "one in a million" cases it's to be seen as important fragment/relict.
Will be pleased to subscribe to your blog in order to not miss out on any other perkins or rockabilly related stuff. Though I guess this really was a coincidence, and your friend and also you are ot particularly into perkins, am I right?
Well, if any other recordi g like that surfaces, I will be happy to listen to it. I am also enjoying music of many different genres, but in regards to collecting music just focus on a few artists.
Do you think your dead friend, may he RIP, has visited other Perkins shoes and recorded them or left other memories related to rockabilly concerts? What about you, have you seen yperkins? I wa born 95 and so did not have a chance, but I am especially into his guitsr playi, and therefore also use these rrcordings to analyze his particular style. Cheers!
This is it for Carl Perkins. My friend recorded thousands of shows but tried to get a lot of the legends at least once. Jerry Lee Lewis a few times too. I pretty much uploaded everything of his I transferred. It was an almost 30 year process but really accelerated the last few years when I started going by anniversary dates in order to get almost everything instead of looking up band names. I kept a list here but not really into running this like an indemand site as I really should once again try to orient my obsessions toward something that can provide a living. Also after a few hours of working on transfers if I am not seeing my girlfriend I prefer to just smoke weed, listen to music and tune out the world https://ijwthstd.blogspot.com/2000/09/list-2.html
DeleteI am totally down to sending whole folders on hard drives but prefer to limit that to the US
DeletePeople have weird hobbies and so have I. Beside collecting stuff I searching for, I enjoy going through endless lists like these (unironically).
DeleteThe dispatching of a harddrive is a quite cool idea which I wouldn't have even thought about due to the distance.
I am running a YT Channel and some of the stuff would be fun to upload there, but yeah, I'll stick to the digital transfers, whereever I get them.
Over here in Berlin, so many people are to be found, but they care even less about many rock artists your fried had recorded. I understand that, it is the Zeitgeist. Rap is cool (I enjoy hip hop being a musician myself. I want to say two things with that: The collector scene here is small, so I really take time to write comments on a sterile lookin blog like this hahahaah. And: Any kind of music can be good, if it shows some structure and creative ideas).
btw weed was illegal a long time here, so I stick to a few beers when I want to distract myself some from the world, but there is nothing bad about flyin high a bit.
I might comment here and there on your postings, mentioning something I might not find somewhere else. Which I do/did beforehand.
I found a Jerry Lee Show recorded in 1978 on your list and was able to get that on guitars101. Cheers for now and: Do you actually have still a want liat, or stopped collecting at all?
My body just can't handle alcohol unfortunately. Or fortunately as it sure adds to the cost. I discovered legal weed during lockdown and that was probably a mistake. Or maybe not since it kinda allowed me to carry on thru some rough spots.
DeleteI definitely have a want list and still collecting, I just need some way to exert some sort of control or focus since every concert basically goes out right away and way too much older stuff turning up too.

BTW Kimi Recor from Black Flamingo and DRÆMINGS relocated to Berlin and is performing there regularly! Check her out, she is amazing!
I really wanted to go to Stones Waldbuhne 2022 but was dealing with an issue and couldn't pull it. Kinda wondering if it's possible or worth it to just do the whole 2025 Euro tour.
