"THE CRUEL SEA A N N O U N C E THE HONEYMOON IS OVER 30th ANNIVERSARY NATIONAL TOUR 2023
It’s been 30 years since the release of The Cruel Sea’s phenomenal, 5 x ARIA Award-winning / Triple Platinum album, The Honeymoon Is Over.
The Cruel Sea are set to reunite for a national tour this November/December, featuring Tex Perkins (Vox), Jim Elliott (Drums), Ken Gormly (Bass) and Dan Rumour (Guitar), together with Matt Walker (Guitar/Keys) filling in for the much-loved & missed, late James Cruickshank. Fans can expect to hear plenty of favourites from The Honeymoon Is Over, as well as a selection of songs across their entire catalogue."
Show Notes: It's been 10 years since the last Cruel Sea shows, and with the sad passing of James Cruickshank in 2015 it was thought we may never see the surviving members perform together again, but it was a triumphant return to the stage, with the excellent Matt Walker filling in admirably. Tex is a fantastic front man and he brought his A game to the stage, with a terrific night full of classic songs, on a miserable wet Melbourne "summer" day outside. A few technical glitches with Dan's guitar early in the show, particularly during Anybody But You, but they were mostly fixed soon after. The Palais is an interesting choice of venue for a band of this stature - the songs lend themselves to standing and grooving, but Aussies love a good seat when they're given the choice, so the audience was sitting until Black Stick, when the groove proved too irresistable, and we all stood for the rest of the show.
Recording Notes: This is a great sounding recording. I read some complaints about the bass sound overwhelming the vocals and guitar in some parts of the venue, but from where I was seated there were no such issues. Enjoy!
