The Breeders @ Melbourne, Australia 2024-01-29

The only anniversary show on tap today. While I was in a zombie trance scrolling old boxscores I saw the Breeders drew 4000 to Hara Arena in Dayton in 1994. Probably their biggest headline show ever, or at least until recently. Would love to hear that if anything should ever exist.

Review:
It's been a pretty rough start to 2024 for me, in all honesty, so I was absolutely thrilled when
prolific Australian taper eckythump asked if I was interested in seeing the Breeders on their 2024
Australian tour - all thanks go to them for this tape. Hoping for the show to be at the very least
a distraction, I was greatly impressed; the original lineup of the band has been playing together
for years now and this show is probably close to what you would've seen in the 90s (and that's not
just because the setlist is almost entirely drawn from the first two records).

The best part of the show, through everything, was just how fun it was - the charm of the Breeders
has always been their sense of humour and way to make almost everything sound breezy. This bled
through to the band, who were clearly having a great time on stage; Josephine told us about what
she got up to today (and told an appalling joke) and the Deals bantered with each other back and
forth, even Jim came out front to thank the crowd. On a few songs, the band added an extra viola
part from a local musician - the loud cheer for her was due to her "Treaty for Victoria" t-shirt. A
great show to have attended, on the whole, with a nice healthy chunk of rock and roll.

Personnel:
Kim Deal - vocals, guitar, bass
Kelley Deal - guitar, vocals
Josephine Wiggs - bass, guitar
Jim Macpherson - drums
"Betty" - viola

Requests:
Please don't sell this - nobody, tapers or artists, will like you if you do.
Please keep this info file around if you post it anywhere else (which you're welcome to do!)
If you give this recording a remaster/matrix treatment, please message me before you do so.
I can be reached on Twitter (fuzzybluerain) or Dimeadozen (fuzzbluerain) most easily.
