Paul McCartney tickets
Internet / Reddit / Social media crybabies so amusing, at least until their bleating influences policy. But when you actually know ... But be ready for the downvotes because if you don't validate their feelings you are the bad guy whether you are right or not.
So Paul McCartney's tour recently went on sale and once again broke all previous barriers on ticket prices with nosebleeds even going up into high hundreds with some snapped up only to be relisted even higher. "Why isn't Paul doing anything about this?" the frustrated and entitled hordes howled in unison.
Paul has been using brokers as insurance since at least 1989 when he was selling them $30 tickets to be resold for half that. Now that he wants up to $500 or more for the worst seats, why would he stop anyone from buying them for any reason?
His propensity for bankrupting brokers was well known even before I started flipping tickets on the regular. When I was active I rarely touched McCartney tickets even though I even once pulled front row at a reduced price morning of for a stadium show on the east coast. Decided to pass but Sent the info on to an associate who I sold consignment for who snapped them up. Think I made $20 commission or so. Only took a commission if the sale was profitable.
Fast forward to early 2022 and though I basically stopped buying tickets mid-2021 but a bit of the kool aid about the post Covid boom was still in the system. And the feeling I should be doing something for income. Except, you know, get a job. Got some great seats to the smallest venue of the tour in Oakland. Damn, was that a bloodbath that turned out to be. In case you are wondering what possessed me to fly to that particular show. It was great and glad I went even under those circumstances because I sure wouldn't otherwise. The losses probably not offset by what I made on Seattle, the only other show I bought in on.
And if you are upset because the tickets you paid $200 for last time are now $500, well if you thought $200 was okay, you are part of the problem.
Not that I am going to get into the even more ridiculous debate that because he is a billionaire he shouldn't be getting paid at all. Whatever he "deserves" to be paid for his own work, it's certainly more than the person who owns the parking lot.
You're welcome, Paul and to whoever got a great deal on the tickets I wasn't using.
