Only marginally familiar and mainly grabbed The Cruel Sea set but listening now and this sounds like it was a great show! Glad I chose this over other shows I have been trying to get to for years

Show Notes: Have you ever been to one of those shows that the crowd was so enthralled and enraptured to be there that it gave you a warm fuzzy feeling to be part of it and you started to get a bit emotional? This was what it felt like to be at this show. One of the all time legendary Australian bands deciding to go out for at least one more tour to celebrate 50 years since Cold Chisel first formed (which was October 1973), and boy did the public react fast, tickets were snapped up so quick the promoter couldn't keep up with announcing additional dates to keep up with the demand. For whatever reason I had never seen Cold Chisel live before, so I knew when this tour was announced I had to correct that, securing excellent seats near the front for the second Melbourne show under the big top circus tent set up at Flemington Racecourse (more shows at the more conventional Sidney Myer Music Bowl were also announced to keep up with the insatiable demand). 50 years may have passed, but I doubt Cold Chisel back in their hey day were putting on shows this good. Generations of Australians have grown up listening to these songs, and people were there to sing their hearts out. Despite recent health issues Jimmy Barnes was at his absolute ferocious best, Ian Moss was on fire on guitar, and sounded superb on the songs he took lead on, and Phil Small and Don Walker were providing the grooves superbly, in addition to "new" drummer Charley Drayton (14 years now with the band since the sad passing of Steve Prestwich), with excellent additions on saxophone, harmonica and backing vocals. It was a truly magnificent performance, spurred on by a crowd who were loving every second of it. I've been to a lot of shows, but there's nothing that can compere to 10,000 people singing Flame Trees and Khe Sanh in unison. I don't know if I'll ever see Chisel live again, but I will not forget this show for a long time. It was a magical thing to experience.
Recording Notes: This recording sounds excellent, with minimal talking around me, though unfortunately I had a guy right behind my whistle in my ear very loudly, which you will hear throughout the show, but Matt has managed to lessen him a little, but he's still there. To his credit he warned me before the show started that he was going to get loud and whistle, to which I told him to do what he has to do, I'm not going to tell a guy how to enjoy a rock concert, especially when he's such a fan he buys a Cold Chisel bucket from the merch store. You'll hear him at one point apologise to me because I put my fingers in my ears he was so loud. But aside from that this is an excellent recording, one I have really enjoyed listening to again. The recording doesn't do it justice, but the crowd singing on Flame Trees and Khe Sanh was spine tingling. I've also included a few photos I took from my seat. Enjoy!

Show Notes: It can't be an easy job being a support act when 10,000 people have paid to see the headliner and you're in the way of that happening, but The Cruel Sea are a very popular band and the crossover with Cold Chisel fans is there, though about half of them didn't bother to come into the tent for this performance. Their loss, because it was an excellent 'greatest hits' set, plus 1 new song from the unreleased new album at the time of the show (since released, check it out it's great).
Recording Notes: Sounds great, given half the crowd weren't there (and the whistler that plagued my Cold Chisel recording was out buying his Cold Chisel bucket during their set), there's basically no audience noise around me. I've also included a few photos I took from my seat. Enjoy!
These are my recordings, glad you enjoyed them! Cold Chisel are barely known outside of Australia, but in this country there are not many bigger legacy acts. In the 1980's and 90's you couldn't turn on a commercial FM station without hearing their music. I stand by everything I wrote, it was a magical night, one of those special nights the love from the crowd really spurred the band on.
