The Cult / Death Cult @ Shrine Expo Hall 2025-10-30 (another rant on ticketing)
A few hours after reading and contemplating an emotional plea by a jam band tour that had a show canceled due to poor tickets to buy in advance whenever possible ... The Cult at the seated Shrine Auditorium got moved to the smaller Shrine Expo Hall. No word on what happens to the people who overpaid for front row. The ticket seller, AXS, a subsidiary of the promoter AEG/Goldenvoice is denying any recourse and responsibility and blaming the promoter.
I am told it's supposed to be a special day for me and this is what I decided to do. My girlfriend agreed to make a rare appearance since she told me she loves The Cult. She doesn't do standing, at least not for 4 sets. I might still go alone. Might pay full price at the window, now a lot more than the cheapest (discounted) tickets would have been if I bought them already.
Whatever the deal is with the promoter booking a way too big venue for a band that's coming thru constantly, they shouldn't shaft the loyal fans still turning out this in this shitty economy.
So, the verdict once again is always buy at the last possible moment. If you are a touring band and your business plan isn't working, maybe it's time for a new one. Or update your resumes.
And keep in mind this is the absolute most saturated time of the year for events though the time frame keeps expanding. The whole reason the show is at the Shrine to begin with, mainly used as an overflow venue.
I say cancel the whole stupid thing and let Ian sing a few songs at the Robby Krieger And Friends show.
(And I often deny LN/Ticketmaster is a monopoly based on how they are running neck and neck if not a close second to AEG/Goldenvoice in Los Angeles and the latter is a far worse company on all levels from purchase policy to set times hostile to those of us who have to get up and go to work in the morning to alleged anti-bot technology blocking legitimate customers intending to use their tickets from purchasing)
Also I know jam bands are a entirely different dynamic where a lot more is promised than implied and the fans are much more willing to support any way possible. But some of those tours will soon be hitting the skids too.
