The first night of The Who's winter 1979 tour, this show was added on to the beginning of the tour as a warm-up and partly as a apology for playing Pontiac Stadium again as the main Detroit venue on the tour. The Who had played there in 1975 and hated venue as much as the audience did.
    
The Detroit set featured some surprises including the first live version of "I Can See For Miles" since 1968 and "Dancing In The Streets," which hadn't been played live since the mid '60s.
   
Pete splits his pants during "Music Must Change" and completed the song wearing a bathrobe (see included photos). He changed pants before the next song, and in the process put on his knee pads, which he would use later during the big leap at the end of "Won't Get Fooled Again." This would be the last show at which he PT attempted the big leap.

We recorded the show right in front of the PA stacks on the left side of the stage. There are a couple of dropouts during "Substitute," otherwise it is a fine recording. Samples provided.

The release of this show is the first of many JEMS masters recorded on the 1979 and 1980 tours that we had not gotten to previously, so if you like this one, there are more on the way.

    In the 70's & 80's, the people of Detroit could not forgive the city of Pontiac (the location of the Silverdome, a suburb north of Detroit) for kidnapping the Detroit Lions. Nowadays, every football fan in Detroit observes that the team is back in town and the Silverdome is a pile of demolished dust.

    I started drafting this a few weeks ago but things keep changing. Feel free to disregard, if anything this is more of a diary / journal entry. I was hoping to have a lot more transfers but there is so much stuff on my February list that wasn't posted in years past that I really wanted to listen to. When the choice is the Itchy Pissholes in Vegas and The Who I will usually choose The Who. And I really have to listen to it as a few had inherent and correctible flaws such as CD skips and were thus trashed. And attempts at upgrades get me the exact same thing. Just merely being a conduit for recordings I have no intention of listening to just doesn't work which is why other than the odd untracked master I am not sending anything out I haven't heard. I always intend to post full comments and review but never do. Maybe next Friday I will have more as I recorded a few things and Vegas Anonymous keeps sending me stuff. My DVD Collection (Pictures)

 Getting some containers off Amazon but will probably be purging a lot. Not even watching anything right now and barely watch any of these. The format is terrible and those slimline drives are just foul. Dual layers? Even if I can get one to successfully burn now it will be unwatchable in a few years. Too bad, love video but can't make a career out of it. Or if I can, lemme know how.
