Notes:
Here is an uncirculated soundboard recording, capturing the ZZ Top concert in Kansas City during their Deguello tour (Expect No Quarter tour) in 1980. Not even an audience recording of this show has circulated previously.
There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of ZZ Top live recordings circulating in general, whether from the soundboard or audience. However, after sharing the Toledo Jam 1980 recording last year, it's time to pick back up with a small handful more 1980 recordings to be publicly archived. With that being said, this Kansas City show is probably the best ZZ Top recording of the bunch.
While ZZ Top maintained a general setlist structure, they seem to have often swapped a song in and out over the months, and shuffled around their encores. While this 90 minute master tape runs out during the second encore, we can't be 100% sure whether another song or two were performed following Dust My Broom, such as Jailhouse Rock. As it stands, Mexican Blackbird appears to be a song rarely documented to have been played on this tour, and given the rarity of ZZ Top live recordings, this might be considered relatively significant among the truly seasoned ZZ collectors.
Enjoy the music and be grateful we are able hear these special recordings. If you have uncirculated tapes, please consider sharing them before they end up forever lost to time.
Thank you
