I was the taper of this show, as well as the one four nights later, also at the Mabuhay, on June 1, 1979.
ReplyDeleteBoth this show and the June 1st show have been shared before over at Dime by teetering with my blessing.
As it dropped off of Dime a few years back, I am very happy to see it shared again here on your blogspot.
This was recorded on a small $65 Panasonic mono cassette recorder, which had no built-in limiter, so when I used a decent brand of tape (as I did here) they came out pretty nice. Teetering did a bit of balancing of my rip from the original cassette, which I had to put into a new case to rip, but otherwise it is as I recorded it that night.
The first song or two were recorded from a table about 20 feet back from the stage, then I moved down to the front, and recorded the rest about 3 feet from the stage, right in the middle.
I also took a ton of photos at both shows, color and b&w. that all of you are welcome to download and enjoy, with the understanding that they are copyright © Clay Holden 1979 and are not to be used for any commercial purposes.
Hopefully they will help put the listener right in the middle of the room where she performed this night.
I did some digital restoration when I scanned these from my original negatives a couple of years ago, and having put the effort into restoring them to my satisfaction, saw no reason to up them in crappy low-res, so here are my color photos from this show, at 600 dpi:

And here are my B&W photos from that show, apparently only at 300 dpi:

If/when you share the June 1st show, I will share my photos from that one, along with an amusing personal story of talking with Nico during a break in the show.
(And if you don't have access to the June 1st show and would like it, let me know here, and I will get it to you.)
Sorry, wrong link for the B&W pix, use this one instead:

Also, this archive is *not* the one I worked on with Keetering, it's one someone else put out with some utterly crap photos listed as 'Artwork' that I did not take, did not approve, and no acknowledgment of our work.
DeleteI hope the audio is the same, and no fault directed at you, just that this is not the version that teetering and I released with my approval.
Well, would be nice if you would *at least* acknowledge my comments and shares, as you did with my share of my Dee Dee Ramone at the Kabuki photo.
DeleteOtherwise, I won't waste my time in the future sharing my work with you here.
I was hoping to read them this weekend
DeleteSorry, I forget that a lot of folks still have a life and job responsibilities; I've been retired now for almost 2 years and am online all the time. Sorry for the 'grumpies'...
DeleteI'll keep an eye out for you sharing the June 1st show if you've got it; or you could post a reply here and I'll upload it somewhere you can grab it and share it here; it no longer appears at all over at Dime (nor does this one).
I finally checked them out. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it when anyone shares memories of the shows I post. Actually also have to do damage control with the GF who I somehow to neglected for several days because they all blur together and I have been trying to complete a simple task and reply to some emails for a few weeks. If this or any project got high traffic engagement I would have to splatter it with ads so I could pay a social media manager.
DeleteThe pictures are actually amazing, especially 0006.
