DAVID JOHANSEN: "POET'S CAFE" - A Musical
FOLK CITY, NYC, NY, USA
JUNE 6, 1984 (EARLY SHOW)
AUDIENCE RECORDING BY SKOTF
SKOTF ARCHIVE VOL. 45

AUD>MASTER CASSETTE>STAND ALONE BURNER>WAV>FLAC

I'll be honest - when I first put this up I had no idea who Carl D'Errico was. Now I am hip...

FLACS the same, new info/torrent files.

I am going to try to reseed the whole archive this year, 250 something volumes of seminal New York punk, rock, and no wave.

Anything with reel to reel in the lineage is probably mono.

All the commentary was done as I heard this stuff for the first time. Tapes were marked with only artist, date, venue so I'd constantly be blown away by this guest or that song played.

Thanks to Arbuthnot & SKOTF

I know, I know - do you really need yet another version of David Johansen's shelved off-Broadway musical Poet's Cafe? (I know, I know, I've used that line a few times before but as I near 1000 uploads it gets harder to come up w/ original material). I was getting the Voice regularly in this era, but this one somehow slipped by me. I have no recollection whatsoever of this phase of DJ's career. This is a Broadway musical work-in-progress. He wrote it with Carl D'Errico who wrote some of the Animals hits that DJ had had a surprise hit with. None of the songs here were familiar to me. Soozie Tyrell was still Soozie Kirchner and Patti Scialfa was not yet Mrs. Brooce. There are some really cool songs here and I would have to guess they all got shelved along with the show. SQ is, imho, excellent. This is either uncirculated or an upgrade with known lineage. Fresh burn/master cassette. There is no category for Musicals or Broadway and Tin Pan Alley is code for Death-Metal/Doom Rock, so I went with the generic "Rock." Any help with the musicians would be great...
