LIMITED TIME / LAST TIME

Hi everybody!
This has turned out to be a labor of love on my part as I did have some major dropouts or level issues on 8 of the 20 songs that Tesla played that night! Tesla has always been a favorite band of mine since I seen them open for David Lee Roth @ The Roundhouse in Chattanooga,TN back in Feburary of 1987. I've got to see them a few times over the years with Def Leppard and Great White before they started to headline their own shows. So when I seen that they was going to be at The Historic Ryman Auditorium it was a "no-brainer" to go even though I didn't have the funds to go. Lucky for me I had a friend who lived in town who had bought 2 tickets and offered the other to me since he would want a copy of the show plus I also did the driving and paid for the gas & the parking so it evened out to help cover the cost of the ticket. It was a great show and I was bummed that Tesla didn't play "Seasons Of Wither" or "Day Of The Eagle" but was very happy with the setlist they played that night! I was even more bummed when I found out that the master tape was flawed but I am pleased the way I have fixed the dropouts in the recording and I'm sure you will like it too!
The encore was a one of those "you had to be there" kind of moments! Jeff Keith came out in a NashVegas styled blue suit with a big ol' cowboy hat on! And he also had some members of George Jone's touring band join him for the last three songs of the night. The first song was a song that a lot fans who post on the Tesla messageboard are eager to hear....and after trying to find out info on who's song it was he was covering I found this at classicrockrevisited.com website from an interview with Jeff Keith

b: Last time I talked to you, you said something about a country song that you wrote.

Jeff: "When Tesla broke up I wrote a country tune. My Mom and Step-dad were living back in Oklahoma and they knew that I was very disappointed from the way things went. I was really sad with the way things went when we broke up. I was also going through a divorce at the same time. They told me that I ought to do country music. I said,  Mom and Pop, I love country and I grew up on country but it is not what I want to write and try to make a career out of. Rock is what is in my heart.  They really thought I should do it so I told them,  I will write you a country song.  It is called  Oklahoma Bound.  It is the story of me and my Mom and my little sister. She was only 2  and I was almost 11 when we moved back to Oklahoma. All we had was the Cadillac that we were in and the U-Haul trailer with everything we owned in the back. I wrote about that and it is a cute little song. If I ever had to do it again then I would. I would stand in line for that box of cheese because it taught me a lot. It taught me to appreciate the little things in life. Everyone who hears it just loves it but it is the kind of thing that I am a little shy about. I am not saying that I could make a career out of writing country songs or anything. I like it but I LOVE rock."

Tesla had George Jones band members Brittany Allen to sing duets & backup vocals with Jeff while Penn Pennington (steel guitar) and Kent Goodson (keyboards) played with the rest of the band....it was a very cool thing to witness! Thank God I brought 2 DAT tapes with me instead of the one I was considering but remembered that Tesla has been known to play 2 hour+ sets in the past!

Enjoy!

Notes about right channel dropouts on the master tape......
I assume that I got a "bad" DAT tape as it was a brand new never played Maxell HS-4/60s and there is no "spikes" in the wave form that normally comes with a microphone malfunction. I used Cool-Edit Pro to "remaster" the tracks with a * after the song title by first making a mono file of the left channel then made a new file that I converted to stereo with the "chorus" effect to give it a fake "stereo" sound as the monotone stereo file was a bit flat to my ears. I usually don't like to remaster recordings but since it is from my master I wanted to keep the flow of the stereo recording consistant.

Master recording dropout information.....
* Right channel drops off at 6:01 of "Modern Day Cowboy"
* Right Channel boosted 9ds's on "Lazy Days" to even L/R levels
* Right channel boosted 6db's on "Walk Away" to even L/R levels
* Left channel only on "The Way It Is"
* Left Channel only on "Freedom Slaves"
* Left channel only on "Little Suzy"
* Left channel only until 1:04 of "I Just Want To Make Love To You"
Then it is a full stereo recording until I change tapes at the end of "Signs"

No dropouts on the 2nd tape that I taped the encore with after the recording of the opening act "Poets And Pornstars"
