Last year we kicked off series of releases from a long time West Coast taper/collector that had passed away. He transferred his extensive archives to CDR years prior to his passing and passed them on to a close friend. His friend has been involved in the Bay area music scene for the last five plus decades and understood the importance of getting these historic shows out to the collector's community. We are working closely him reviewing the shows for both unreleased and upgrades.

The next release in our series has circulated for quite a while and falls two days prior to our last release.

The show at Merriweather Post Pavilion was controversial due to two persons arrested on charges of assaulting security guards. The Santana show arrests were the second incident that summer at the Pavilion, an earlier Edgar Winter show saw three arrested for disorderly conduct. The state's attorney's office began action against the pavilion to ban rock concerts for the rest of the summer of 1973.

The pavilion's house manager blamed the disturbance on Santana stating, "They had a chance to help us out and they did just the opposite, he said, claiming the groups leader, Carlos Santana, chided security guards during the performance and invited listeners to dance in the aisle and the orchestra pit."

You can hear what Carlos says on Track 19 asking the guys with the sticks to please don't hurt nobody.

Ultimately the disturbances resulted in the cancelation of an August 28 Rare Earth concert and no "rock" concerts being scheduled during the 1974 summer season. The enclosed newspaper clippings give a good picture of the battle to ban rock which turned out to be not much of a battle and was easily pushed through.

I've worked on and listened to a lot of these boards at this point and I must say this is not only one of the strongest performances but possibly the best mix and quality of our releases to date...I can see why concert goers were dancing in the aisles!

There are a number of folks we are indebted to for access to this exciting archives, the anonymous West Coast collector, may he rest in peace, his friend that had the motivation and understands the need to get these historically important shows into circulation before they were lost forever and a huge thanks to dime member 'davmar77'. He did not currently have the bandwidth to facilitate such an undertaking at this time and put us in touch...this is how dime should work.

As always thanks to Goody, our pitch master, for his continued to support of these historic releases, he does extra duty on this series of releases helping confirm the setlists, extra thanks go out to him for this continuing critical assistance!

Over the past year or so, we've unfortunately had a number of long time tapers/collectors shuffle off this mortal coil, fortunately many had the foresight to secure their archives with friends and collectors so they could be properly released and enjoyed by generations to come.

Fellow tapers and collectors don't wait until it's too late to get those archives out into circulation, please get in touch, there are plenty of us here that can help get your hard work into circulation...no tape left behind!

Artwork and numerous newspaper clippings are included.
