Show notes: According to the book 'Something So Strong', this was a particularly unhappy time for Crowded House. Tim had joined the band for Woodface, and when it came time to tour the record had been assigned keyboard duties, and Neil wasn't happy with how it was sounding (Neil even punched Tim after a show in Byron Bay, unhappy with his lack of effort on World Where You Live). The solution was to bring in Mark Hart for the North American and European legs of the tour to play keys, with Tim relegated to acoustic guitar and vocal duties. Given over half the setlist was written without Tim in the band, it's no wonder he only lasted another 2 months with the band, citing the fact he had little to do on stage as to his reason for leaving mid tour (he wouldn't be the last member to leave mid tour...)

On stage it was hard to tell anything was wrong, as is evident at this show in front of 14,000+ people where the band was headlining Seattle's iconic Bumbershoot festival. A brilliant set of Woodface material, a couple of Split Enz classics, and some older Crowdies material, the band was firing on all cylinders. This is a classic Crowdies show in that small window Tim was a full time member of the band.

Recording notes: This is an excellent JEMS master recording. For those not familiar with the JEMS team, they are one of the most renowned live recording specialists in the last 40+ years (just go to Dimeadozen or The Traders Den and search them). They've been responsible for some amazing recordings from a whole array of different artists. This is the only time I'm aware of they recorded a Crowded House show, or at least circulated one. It is simply an outstanding recording. While it sounded good already, I've given it a remaster in iZotope, and it's come out sounding even better. This recording is on par with the official soundboard fan club releases from that year, it's that good. One of my favourite Crowdies shows from the Tim era.

The following is Butterking from JEMS' notes on the recording:

"JEMS got in the building early so we had our pick of spots, choosing, as we often did in those days, a row of seats about 1/3 of the way back from the stage on the side where we could rest the long (about 2.5 feet) shotgun mics on a ledge/railing in front of us. We bought the dictionary-sized Panasonic DAT recorder in 1989 and took it wherever we could.

The resulting tape sounds pretty darn good. This was one of the most entertaining and lively CH shows I ever saw, in front of 14,000+ in Seattle."

Torrent notes: This was originally seeded to Dimeadozen in 2008 when Crowded House was still an allowed artist there. It then quickly made its way to Jane, but the torrent has been dead for a long time. This remaster is the definitive version, and is one of the best recordings of the Tim era. Enjoy!
