Aerosmith Rehearsal Report
I was considering waiting until after Nov 1 to post this as I rarely like to announce or discus options for where I will be ahead of time. However prices for this are so ridiculous and the guests just make it less appealing to me. The rear corners at the Bowl where you can't see or hear anything were $183 moment of sale but were also the first to go.
The second Tyler's appearance at Back To The Beginning was announced I knew this was going to happen. I just wish it was in Boston so I wouldn't have to worry about it.
On top of that, hearing them play I Don't Want To Miss A Thing for an hour is doing little to stoke the flames. The rain might extinguish some flames on November 1 leading to a secondary price crash because people in LA don't go out in the rain. However I don't go out in the rain either. And even a steep discount on an average price of $350 a ticket will probably be too much. For Vegas I was mostly spending $40-60, not counting the time I spent $230 on onstage seating but I also flipped a few balcony tickets that were dumped that day bringing that cost down. I am watching a very obvious price war on my favorite secondary site but again, nothing I wanna buy. And I ran into a little issue making it into a show in time a few weeks ago when pushing it to the last possible moment.
Also I just hate engaging in my usual activities at the Bowl. The whole reason I go there so much now is there is a shuttle near my home and usually plenty of cheap tickets available and there is a very low emotional investment in any possible outcome.
I do regret not heading to this spot the moment I heard they were rehearsing. But there are dozens if not hundreds of similar facilities all over LA.

On my way home from Amoeba I make a spur of the moment decision to hop on a bus that goes right by this facility. They have multiple soundstages and there is always constant activity. I saw someone walk out the gate with a crew shirt and then an autograph seeker appeared with a stack of records. He said we could hear outside but they are finished and Dave Grohl just left. Did Dave Grohl play or was he asking why he wasn't invited?

I had 7 shows on my calendar for tonight but ended up swinging by the studio. Got there about 2:45pm, a bit later than I wanted to, and they were already playing.
No vocals, no keyboards that I could hear and no idea who was on drums. Hopefully they have Tyler in a bubble til showtime.
Thankfully they are in the studio closest to the gate but still on 2 major streets and a few hundred yards from the runway at a major airport in case anyone wants to ask me if I recorded anything.
I Don't Want To Miss A Thing - worked on this in stops and starts for about an hour. Not sure if they ever played it all the way thru from beginning to end.
Janie's Got A Gun - same as above, heard Joe's solo at least 5 times and of course it sounded different every time. For awhile heard Tom and drummer working on just the intro for 10 mins. That's the thing about Geffen era Aerosmith. Even if I have been sick of hearing those songs since last century, the guitar solos are still amazing.
At some point in between takes I heard someone who I now believe is Brad outside in a very agitated state about possibly not being informed of a schedule and yelling you wanna blame me and my team. Couldn't really make out any complete sentences though. Almost 80 years old and still bickering. Then they played a bit more of Janie's Got A Gun.
Also at this point I decide I heard enough and head across the street for the last possible bus thinking I will just go to SoFi and grab a -$20 ticket for Jay-Z off Tickpick along the way but miscalculate and realize I will never make it across the street in time.
But it gets a little better.
Dream On - played maybe twice with some stops starts but not as many
Angel - played twice all the way through, sounds great without keyboards & vocals and sounds a little harder hearing it right out of the amps. The lyrics are cringe now but I do not hate this song.
Rag Doll - played maybe twice, interesting hearing the vocal part played out on guitar without actual vocals over it.
I went long enough without hearing any music and also it's possible they left out another gate that I hopped on the next bus home
Might swing by again tomorrow. Stones rehearsals there were Monday through Friday. However, the entire street is red zoned but filled with gig drivers waiting for calls from the airport. Every once in awhile someone would come out and clear them away from directly in front of the building which makes me wonder if they are waiting for a truck to take the stuff to a bigger soundstage. This is a practice space style facility any band can likely rent, often time full production rehearsals are somewhere else that can simulate an arena or Bowl stage.

I head back and sure enough there is a truck right in front with the trailer still open. I see Aerosmith stamped road cases including one JD-2 which likely stands for John Douglas which means drum duties aren't falling solely on Joey.

We will see what happens but I can't promise anything. I might very well be watching the show at home via clips on YouTube. I do have some very expensive shows on my calendar in the coming weeks I am not willing to sacrifice. Unless it rains.
