JOE'S MEMORIES:
As we trudged through the crusty snow, towards the University Of Maine Gym, none of us knew what "sights and sounds" we would experience at the Alice Cooper concert.
Over the years, we knew of the "Pretties For You" and "Easy Action" albums, from Frank Zappa's Bizarre Records label, then came "Love It To Death", with the hit single, "I'm Eighteen",
but now, we had the "Killer' album. The stories of Alice's snake, the "Dead Babies" song, the onstage hanging execution, the unfortunate "chicken incident' at the Toronto Rock And Roll Festival in 1969,
were all making the rounds again and just before they came to Maine, people were saying that Alice was going to kill a puppy onstage at the show.
Needless to say, that didn't happen. But, Alice Cooper was playing larger and larger venues and he tried to get the band out of playing this college gym show.
Luckily for us, they had a contract that they couldn't get out of, so this turned out to be Alice Cooper's last "small venue" show.
I guess Alice didn't hold a grudge about not getting out of doing the show, because it was an excellent performance.
The band played exceptionally well, we got to see the snake, the chopped up baby doll and we got to see Alice's execution by hanging, with the full sized gallows on stage.
hey performed the "Killer" album, "I'm Eighteen' and we even heard an instrumental version of the song that would become "School's Out", that went into the last number, "Under My Wheels".
Nobody went home disappointed with anything in this show and a friend of mine told me that, after the show, Alice gave his lace up leather vest to a guy who waited to meet him backstage,
or outside by their bus.Now THAT was a nice souvenir of the show!

Many Many Thanks To Joe
