Notes: Somewhat unfairly Melbourne only got 1 show for the Gravity Stairs tour, after Sydney got 4 and even Perth had 3. Were Melbournians suffering from Finn fatigue, having been here 3 times (plus the rain affected A Day On The Green near Geelong) in 2022? Would a Tuesday night gig mean a lack of energy? The answer was a resounding no, with a completely full and enthusiastic audience in the much larger than Sydney and Perth venues Rod Laver Arena (ticket prices at over $200 each probably didn't help either, there's a cost of living crisis Live Nation!!). What we missed out in quantity, we certainly got in quality, with a jam packed show - early on Neil chastised himself for talking too much, then later proceeded to talk loads anyway! Then Neil complained at the end of the 11pm curfew for the venue - hey Neil, you know you could always come on earlier no one is forcing you to come on at 8:50pm!

But I digress. It was an excellent show, the band playing better than ever, and rocking out harder than I've ever seen a Crowded House ensemble rock out before. From a frenetic Black and White Boy, to the thrashiest version of Chocolate Cake I've ever seen them perform (with Neil going absolutely crazy running around on stage like a man possessed). But there were tender moments too, particularly the sublime Hole In The River which until recently was rarely played by this Crowded House version, and the crowd favourite Message To My Girl, and even a dedication for the rarely played She Goes On, introduced as a snippet because of time constraints, but we got the full version anyway, and they still finished right on 11pm! Also there was an excellent new song from Elroy called The Other, a song Neil said the band has adopted as their own. Just an excellent show. 2024 Crowded House is a very different beast to the old days, but with the quality of the show tonight, may they continue to jam  on for a long time yet.

Recording notes: This is an excellent sounding recording, one of my best yet. Expertly mastered by Chris, this is a really nice one to listen to. A few photos I took are also included. Enjoy!
