Back On Friday

I got a few shows over the weekend that I am totally into listening to a second time, working on some older shows and Vegas anonymous is sending me stuff again so whatever is done on Friday I will write up info files and post.

David Gilmour @ Hollywood Bowl 2024-10-31 (untracked wav)

David Gilmour @ Hollywood Bowl 2024-10-31 (untracked wav) 24/48 LOTS of sources of all shows are probably forthcoming so I didn't really take it as seriously night 1 but returned night 3. I was in L something but relocated closer for 2nd set. 10/29 is missing first song and also run to restroom during Scattered - I didn't look at setlist so didn't realize I only had one song left. https://pixeldrain.com/u/WQLuHnEJ

D-A-D + Stargazer @ Trondheim, Norway 2024-10-22 (raw wavs 48/24)

Rather than chase bands all over Europe I decided to just stay a few days in Trondheim and lucky for me, D-A-D's 40th anniversary tour was in town. I got lost finding the venue so didn't get there til 7:50pm. And walked all the way up to the ticket takers, and asked where I could get tickets. "Ticketmaster online only" Uh oh. No Wi-Fi and I never got a local SIM card. The bouncer up front tells me he is trying to find someone to help me. Meanwhile I just go into my usual routine asking people rolling up if they have an extra ticket, holding cash in my hand to compensate for any possible language barrier. Security guard laughs and says you won't find a ticket that way. Maybe 30th person walking by says my friend is coming and yells out "Hey I found a guy." Friend comes up and charges me 400NOK which is face minus service fee. THIS WORKS EVERYWHERE. OK, maybe not North Korea but I have done it now in Finland and Norway in addition to multiple US cities. Manfred Mann's Earth Band @ Olvashallen, Trondheim, Norway 2024-10-20 (raw wav) **fixed link*

After flying from Tromso to Copenhagen (sleep in airport) to Frankfurt to LAX to Van Nuys to dearly neglected's house to home, I can finally reupload this.  Recorded 3 other shows, more later I said the bucket ain't too deep now. But a few years ago I stumbled across the amazing Rockpalast 2000 show and played it over and over again and also grabbed the DVD box set off Ebay. And added it to the list of bands that will likely never play the U.S. again. Last time was 1977. Manfred Mann turns 84 tomorrow! Love Mick Rogers playing. Been trying to get back to Europe but the amount of planning involved, at least for me, always makes it a daunting task. Started out looking at Demolition 23 in Helsinki, then maybe Therapy? in Helsinki followed by Manfred Mann in Oslo but didn't care for the T? setlist and in the end decided to do a few days in Trondheim and a few in Tromso. Forgot my laptop cable so what meant to be several hours in a lounge at Gatwick watching YouTube ended up bei

No Transfers And Going On Extended Vacay

As you can see, I didn't complete a single transfer this week. Flying out for 9 days this afternoon. A very grueling trip across several countries including 2 airport sleeps. Considering my back pain is a bit higher than usual and my energy lower not sure that's a good idea. The whole thing was pretty haphazardly put together based entirely on a $109 flight to London I found. and an urgency to travel abroad. Not staying there. There is a semi-bucket list band as a possibility but only because about all there is left to do with a bucket is kick it. More about just getting out of the country for the hell of it before we transition any further into an entirely new historical era. So there may or not be a post or two depending on what I do.  Kinda crazy to commit to that sort of travel for a show when I don't really want to go here anymore. When I get back there is hopefully enough gas in the tank for at least 2 more shows. Then I must attempt the more daunting task of figuring

Judas Priest @ YouTube Theater 2024-10-15 (raw wav)

LIMITED TIME / LAST TIME Only 1 area show in a 6,000 seater, of course I don't buy tickets so day of it's not looking good. At least not to anyone who isn't me. Grab a cheap resale ticket that popped up early in the afternoon, then tempt fate and resell it. Actually going depends on nap status so I don't even get there til after Sabaton is on. The one show I saw in Raleigh did not impress. I know the historian YouTubers I watch love them but I just can't get into it. Also Charli XCX was at the Forum so I spent at least 5 minutes there seeing if I could get a $60 ticket in spite of it being a $300 get-in. Anyway it was work, got a cheap ticket in the parking lot after Sabaton was done pushing my cost to almost free. Yeah I know it breaks every fan code that I didn't agree to but I have had zero income for years so this is how I gotta do it for the more pricey shows from now on. Great Priest show for the modern lineup, excellent pacing, especially the first half.

Till Lindemann + Twin Temple + Aesthetic Perfection @ Kia Forum 2024-10-14 (raw wav)

LIMITED TIME / LAST TIME The emptiest I have ever seen the Forum. Was told 4800 but that likely includes unsold resale tickets (one of which I grabbed for $4.55) and estimated walkup. The dude you hear yelling at the end of Twin Temple was told by security to calm down. He ended up arguing back, dropping N-bombs and escalating all the way to restraint stretcher and probably a Hannibal Lecter spit mask. He was pushed out the door and past the barricades so I mostly heard a bunch of yelling ("I AM A WRESTLER!") but I did see the stretcher. If you can request Inglewood PD bodycam footage it might be worth checking out. Had a similar deal been available for PJ Harvey I might have done that instead but the Greek is terrible for sold out shows when I can't move away from people. Otherwise fun enough show for the price. https://pixeldrain.com/l/iWrtpkzA

Niki + Allison Ponthier + Honey The Band @ Greek Theatre 2024-10-11 (raw wavs)

LIMITED TIME / LAST TIME Got a bench ticket on resale for $2.37. Just wanted to see Allison Ponthier for the 4th time. Was really hoping she would have blown up into arena headliner by now. Just as she was going on I was upgraded into the boxes area near the soundboard hence the disruptions on the first song. Never heard Niki but only saw above the fold on Wiki which said she was Indonesian. The crowd was 98% Indonesian at least. I was wondering if my aunt from Indonesia who I haven't seen in about 12 years was there I would also say 98% under 25. Skewed but not totally female. I just love being at shows with demographics outside the usual norms representative of the population . She was great. "La La Lost You" is one of those that's immediately relatable, and by the singing you hear most of the crowd felt the same way. Also watched her Head In The Clouds set on YouTube. all at https://pixeldrain.com/l/3rtP8vrv

Motorhead autographed setlist & quick story

Image
Was invited to the studio, where my friend and Phil promptly started smoking PCP and snorting rails of meth off a coffee table. Phil was playing guitar like he signed his name. I ended up smoking a joint outside with the producer or engineer out back since it was obvious no work was going to get done. Being high in the hills above Calabasas a vehicle was the only way out, which nearly backed off the hillside. I found this setlist for the tour starting in a few days. The reason Lemmy and Mickey's signature is not on it is when I was invited back the next day I decided I am content just being a fan. The first 2 dates of the tour were canceled in the intervening time This story cannot be confirmed or denied as the friend, who was trying to keep up with people with much stronger constitutions than he, died not longer after Lemmy, at the ripe old age of 53.

Band Of The Month: OASIS **FINAL 2024-10-10 with Round 10**

Seems like the tour excitement is catching on and a few fans have found this page. I don't have anything specifically rare but might as well put it all up. Don't really wanna clear out any of the Google drives so it has to be Pixeldrain. There is a 5GB daily download limit but I probably only have a few days worth. This collection is by no means comprehensive. Share widely if you wish. To be honest going forward - I don't like posting anything I haven't listened to. I lost track and can't really dedicate my life to Oasis right now so it's up to you to point out any flaws, most importantly CD skips from bad rips or too much diginoise - 2 things that make me trash a recording. Anyone have a complete Manchester Dec 1994? The one on Dime is heavily redacted. Can any of the experts recommend anything particularly exciting? Maybe I will make this a monthly thing with a different band. Or not. Like I said, just not feeling it anymore. RIP Douglas Parenteau aka OasisDou

Zombie Apocalypse - The Daniel Penny case

I wrote this and posted to Facebook last week, there have been more developments but I haven't had time to keep up. Posting anyway. Maybe I will make the Zombie Apocalypse the theme of this blog when I stop recording / posting as now I have to determine what worse case scenarios I have to prepare for just to see a show. They are doing everything possible to deny Daniel Penny a fair trial. They want to make it look like an isolated incident perpetrated by the defendant, minimizing the state's negligence in turning a habitually violent individual loose to continually terrorize the populace. This is the first I have heard of K2 abuse by Neely. And far be it from me to rely upon the NY Post as a source but there is absolutely nothing about these latest developments in the Times. Wonder why? This should concern anyone who uses public transportation or just walks the streets of any major metropolis. If you are put in a position where you must defend yourself or others (as just happe

Iron Maiden + The Hu @ Kia Forum 2024-10-08 (raw waves)

I don't even know if I will have any transfers of anything by Friday or if I will wanna listen to this again any time soon so here ya go. I really wanted to make up for missing half the first song at Power Trip considering that was my last bucket list song except for whatever I missed in 2005 and 2012/2013. Tickets were just too expensive and they had a year to sell them all. Low price on remaining tickets $157.15 each. $2.15 more than I spent on a 3 day Power Trip pass. This morning a friend asks if I wanna go half on a resale pair that was 195.50. More than I wanted to spend but I told him I will get the pair and if I can't sell the extra I will go. List it at a markup and it sells. A few more under $100 pairs turn up and I repeat the process until next thing you know it's not an expensive ticket for me anymore. I use to do this all day every day at volumes still unimaginable, a story that should be told someday. Now snapping up a few underpriced resale tickets to get mys

Kacey Musgraves / Father John Misty / Nickel Creek @ Kia Forum 2024-10-03 (Raw Wavs)

LIMITED TIME / LAST TIME Finally forced myself out to a real show. Nickel Creek was excellent, Father John Misty was ho-hum and Kacey Musgraves was really good. Note I didn't move or touch the levels at all, those disparities in dynamic range are purely house sound. She had a really wide PA array, perhaps to compensate for the mellower sound. Recorded from Sec 210 row 10. Not my original seat but plenty of empties and I didn't haul myself all the way to the top. Paid $31 on the secondary, and last minute, had to make sure I would get there in time for Nickel Creek following an instore that ended at 5:35. I blew off so many cheap tickets the last month or two (hey I LOVE the secondary market and will defend it to the death) but the novelty of going to a concert for "only" $20 has kinda worn off especially when including the massive investment of time and energy. Nickel Creek joins Kacey Musgraves on 1 song. Be sure to read the Dime NAB before posting. Not sure the po

Uncle Ron, Forever 27

This was originally written and shared privately with relatives on Oct 1 2020. The only change made was to the age. He would have been 65 today. It's hard to imagine him being old even though he was always old to me. He certainly never grew up at least in the sense most of us associate with adulthood and maturity. He lived a short and sometimes troubled life. Like my mother and most of her siblings he grew up in foster homes. My father would sometimes derisively say he was the one relative who I took after the most. He was rarely employed and aside from a three-year stint in the navy, often lived with us. He was something of a loner and may have had what would be more politely called amotivational syndrome today. When he went into the navy, I was about 7 years old. He left his records in my room and I listened to them often. It included many of the staples of FM rock radio of the 1970's. They more than anything have formed the core of my musical tastes today as I could also dig

The Zombie Apocalypse Continues

The Zombie Apocalypse continues with 2 high profile incidents. And this is what's so scary about life at the street level in Los Angeles right now. I have been taking the bus and walking the streets at all hours since about 1990. I can live with the possibilities of crime within the normal parameters like getting robbed or hit by a drunk driver but this is an entirely different kind of threat, one that is hard to prepare for. Though I am fully supportive of an individual right to carry, I can't do it on the bus to a show. You can't even do that in Texas. I bet if the first incident happened within LA city limits, the cops likely would have just arrested the very protective father, tossing the kid into DCFS system until they can make a case. Hard to say as legitimate self-defense cases are so rare in LA. It's taking so long to ID the deceased perpetrator, probably a bit too feral even by LA street life standards. https://lamag.com/crimeinla/alleged-kidnapper-stabbed-to-d

(YT) Gitane Dimone & Paul Roessler @ Redwood 2024-09-28 and more rambling

I know people were excited about some of the Christian Death I was posting so just wanted to let you know the Redwood streamed this set. Ended up not making it out to any of the 8 shows on my calendar Saturday including the Hoodoo Gurus which I was most excited about. But forcing myself to stand thru a show I only went to because it was almost free and a miserable experience kinda made me not wanna force myself out again in spite of my FOMOCD mind was telling me. Now if someone would have answered my call to hitch a ride to a Crowded House 200 miles away I would have certainly jumped on it. Also was definitely definitely going to go to a free afternoon bar show until it came time to leave when I decided to hold myself to my more recent standard of never going to a bar show without set times, this time regardless of it's in the daytime. I made up for it by listening to some history lectures and finally finishing up the mess that is my bookshelves in order as my former roommate left

Rolling Stones @ Aberdeen, Scotland 1982-05-26 (SB/Aud merge) **new release Kick Off '82**

A new show drops and I am in a position to drop everything and listen. First show of 1982 in the 2100 capacity Capitol Theatre in Aberdeen, Scotland. It's a soundboard up to Let Me Go then flips to audience recording which sounds like standard cassette in pocket in the last row but I am glad someone put together the complete show even if only a tape side of the soundboard is available. It was posted to IORR in wav format, I re-titled tracks, converted to FLAC and wrote info file. https://musicloverjapan.com/products/the-rolling-stones-kick-off-european-tour-1982-soundboard-2cd ROLLING STONES ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND @ CAPITOL THEATRE 1982-05-26 Soundboard/Audience merge / THE ROLLING STONES / KICK OFF! Oasis 2025 Tour Tickets

Posted this on Facebook but worth reposting here: Oasis tour - in 2005 I had an oh shit that's tonight moment and hurried to the Hollywood Bowl, missing the openers and getting a G level super seat for $5. In 2008 they played to about 9,000 people at Staples Center with the upper deck mostly empty. Now I know there are people who weren't even born yet trying for tickets and we are in a more globalized concert market but don't let yourself get gaslighted into panic buying overpriced seats. And whatever you do, don't buy more tickets than you can use yourself. They have 11 months to pull out every trick in the book to maximize revenue and fill as many seats as possible. Now I am glad it's the Rose Bowl and not SoFi as I am much more likely to try to go assuming I am still alive, still living in CA, still have a country, etc. Also they have always been just kinda ho hum live, it's just the incredible first 2 albums / The Masterplan that kept me coming back but I e
