New York Dolls @ NYC 1974-02-15

LIMITED TIME / LAST TIME

NY Dolls, Academy of Music, New York City, 15 February 1974
          [REMASTERED]

This show is crucial for anyone who wants to trace the history of
punk, or whoever just wants an intense rock workout.

This otherwise excellent program had issues common to amateur
analog audio cassette recordings of this vintage: the frequency
response of consumer portable cassette gear of the early 70's wasn't
that good, head azimuth/track alignment between any two cassette
decks was often just a little bit off, and every time you copied any
kind of analog recording, you added more noise and lost sound
quality (Dolby noise reduction helped somewhat, but early portable
decks didn't have it, and a lot of tapers didn't like it).

I spent over 2 hours enhancing this recording as follows:

Applied equalization to make the instruments and especially the
          vocals clearer.

Removed as much tape noise as possible without introducing
          unwanted artifacts.

Boosted the levels of tracks from the second half of the program,
which were significantly weaker than those on the first half.

          Filtered out AC hum.

Edited out undesirable clicks and pops wherever I found them.

Re-encoded the program with FLAC, level 7.

          Given that you can't make a low-fi recording hi-fi, I believe that I
have at least made this crucial show a lot more listenable.

I'd like to thank Kanzan who uploaded this show and the other
DIME members who have seeded it so that a new generation can
hear it, and so that an older generation can re-live some glorious
          moments.

Audience recording, transferred from a Maxell XLII high bias
cassette. This is probably only a C+, or B- in it's better moments,
sound wise. Regardless I really enjoy this show. If you're hardcore
about the Dolls, you'll love it. A great performance with plenty of
between-song banter from [David] Johansen. Frenchie the roadie
          even gets mentioned.
